Optician Awards: What made David Burghardt the winner of Contact Lenses for Life (Teens) award 2015?

With the Optician Awards 2016 coming up this weekend we look back at the diverse communication methods that saw David Burghardt Vision Care claim last year's Contact Lenses for Life (Teens) Award. Saul Sebag hears how its progressive treatment of myopia in young patients is gaining kudos across its home town of Lincoln

The criteria for the Contact Lenses for Life category states that the prize winner will be a practice that over a period of time has provided evidence of innovation in CL treatment and outstanding service which has changed the lives of its younger patient base.

‘It’s fantastic to be recognised as a leading practice in this field,’ said practice manager Richard Spencer when asked about the award.

There were several strong nominees in this category who fulfilled this criterion, which is reflected in the judges’ comments that also heaped praise on the entries of both McGonigle and Buchanan Opticians. The judges’ verdict stated, ‘[David Burghardt] clearly demonstrated an understanding of young people’s needs,’ but nevertheless, ‘only pipped Buchanan with their communication preferences.’
