PKP Optics: Taking long hops forward in Kent

This ophthalmic laboratory between Tonbridge and Maidstone has steadily grown over the past 10 years as its ability to deliver technically exacting, high-quality work has garnered it a growing reputation among practices. Simon Jones visits, hearing of fresh plans for improvement

Situated within the quiet unassuming Kent town of Paddock Wood is PKP Optics, an ophthalmic laboratory that its directors say goes about its business in a similarly understated fashion.

In the 10 years it has been in business, there have been no expensive marketing campaigns and there are no sales representatives chasing business. Growth has come from its dedication to achieving the best quality of work.

The roots of the company can be found in some of Kent’s most prominent labs, says Keith Lawrance, one of three directors at PKP Optics. Management changes at Kent Optic brought industry four colleagues together who believed they could offer something different while working for themselves. ‘We felt we could do a better job and better service, and hopefully we’ve proved that over the years,’ says Lawrance.
