ABDO College turns to webinars as it suspends face to face teaching

All timetabled teaching will be completed through webinars

Online teaching tools have been adopted by the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) College because it has suspended all face to face teaching until further notice.

All timetabled teaching will be completed through webinars as part of ABDO’s response to the ongoing coronavirus (Covid-19) situation.

Steve Hertz, head of operations at ABDO College, said: ‘We have followed advice from the Department for Health since the beginning. This decision has not been taken lightly. The safety and welfare of our students is our absolute priority so we feel this is the best plan of action for the current time.

‘Clearly, nothing can replace face to face teaching so we will revert back to this method as soon as we can. We will continue with the blended learning method of course delivery in future once this situation has ceased to be a problem.’

ABDO advised that students should attend webinars during the normal period when they would have been at face-to-face sessions and will contact students in the week before to provide specific instructions.

The association added that it is vital employers respect the two week period that students have scheduled to allow them to study remotely.
