AOP welcomes Westminster advocates

Eye health
Seven parliamentarians appointed to support AOP's work

Seven parliamentarians have been welcomed by the Association of Optometrists (AOP) as honorary associates to support the work it carries out and represent its interests in Westminster.

The AOP said Sir Kevin Barron MP, Alistair Burt MP, Sir Roger Gale MP, Lord Holmes of Richmond, Earl Howe, Lord Low of Dalston CBE and Jim Shannon MP, were already active campaigners on eye health and sight loss issues.

Commenting on his appointment, Lord Holmes of Richmond said: ‘As the leading representative membership organisation for optometrists in the UK, the AOP provides crucial support in an incredibly important sector. The importance of sight tests for the early detection of potentially sight threatening eye diseases, as well as the issue of eye health more broadly, must be placed firmly on the health agenda.’
