BCLA calls to #StopTheSteam

The association is encouraging practitioners to have discussions about contact lenses

A campaign that encourages spectacle wearers to switch to contact lenses has been launched by the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA).

The #StopTheSteam campaign hopes to eliminate the experience of frames fogging up when wearing eyewear and a face covering by trying contact lenses as an alternative.

It said that fogging has become ‘a real problem’ for people because it hampers work and makes life uncomfortable when carrying out simple tasks.

Luke Stevens-Burt, chief executive of the BCLA, said: ‘Contact lenses are a safe and comfortable way to keep your vision crystal clear while you protect yourself during the Covid-19 pandemic.

‘While glasses can ‘fog up’ and hamper your vision when you are wearing a face mask, contact lenses keep you seeing clearly. Wearing contact lenses can be an effective way of “stopping the steam” and allowing you to work and live in comfort while staying safe during the COVID-19 outbreak.’
