Optometric care initiatives have been passed over by Bolton NHS Trust

Optometric care initiatives have been passed over by Bolton NHS Foundation Trust with the launch of a £1m ‘virtual eye clinic’ scheme.

The clinics, which will take place at Waters Meeting Health Centre in Bolton, will allow patients with glaucoma and wet macular degeneration to be tested within one hour, compared with two to three hours at the Royal Bolton Hospital at present.

The trust expected the five new ‘advanced’ ophthalmic technicians to see around 2,000 patients every year at its Monday to Friday Clinics. The technicians will measure visual acuity, pressure tests and advise on condition management. Care will be managed by ophthalmic consultants.
