Vision Care for Homeless People reached more patients than ever at its 10 London centres over the festive period.

The charity offered eye examinations to 250 vulnerable people during seven days of eye clinics.

Shaneela Chana, trustee of Vision Care for Homeless People, said: ‘We made a number of referrals for further treatment and were relieved to help one patient with a prescription of -19.00D who had been wearing the same contact lenses for three months. She was too afraid to take them out because she felt so vulnerable on the streets.’

The team of 45 Vision Care for Homeless People volunteers included charity chair Elaine Styles (pictured left).
