CooperVision’s Plastic Bank achieves landmark

The initiative has prevented over 100m plastic bottles from polluting the oceans

CooperVision’s Plastic Bank initiative reached a milestone after preventing more than 100 million plastic bottles from polluting the oceans.

After initiating the plastic neutral model for the contact lens industry in 2021, it funded the Plastic Bank’s recycling and reuse waste management activities of plastic products across 27 countries throughout the Americas, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. Collection community members in more than 350 coastal communities benefit from the programme.

Doug Bairner, country manager of UK & Ireland at CooperVision, commented: ‘We’re extremely proud of the contribution eye care professionals and contact lens wearers have made to this important initiative in the UK & Ireland. It really goes to show that small actions can make a massive difference when we all work together with a common purpose. We’re excited to see what more we can achieve together over the years to come.’
