Derby optometrist backs campaign highlighting the dangers of sunlight to children’s eyes

A Derby optometrist has backed a campaign highlighting the dangers of sunlight to children’s eyes.

Davina Dosanjh, practice owner at Richard Petrie Optometrists in Littleover, said parents are not doing enough to protect their children’s eyes.

Dosanjh said: ‘Most parents don’t realise that 80% of a lifetime’s UV radiation is absorbed into the eye before the age of 18.

‘As parents, you keep your children safe in the sun by applying sun cream and sun hats, but you should also make them wear sunglasses too.’
