DO failed to declare caution

A dispensing optician is handed a six-month suspension

A dispensing optician who failed to declare a caution for assaulting a colleague in their place of work during business hours has been handed a six-month suspension by a General Optical Council fitness to practise committee.

Olukolajo Kayode pleaded guilty to the charge at South East London Magistrates’ Court in January 2016 and received a caution, but the Council alleged Kayode failed to declare the offence or the punishment when applying for retention in 2016-17 and 2017-18.

The committee viewed CCTV footage that showed Kayode and his colleague in dispute over which patient would be seen next. The
assault was described as a headbutt. When deciding on sanction, the
committee noted the registrant’s ‘genuine remorse’.
