Emergency vitreoretinal service launched by OCL

Surgical treatment options for retinal detachment have been expanded at OCL

Ophthalmic Consultants of London (OCL) has launched a vitreoretinal service that included emergency, same-day surgical treatment for patients who have a retinal detachment.

Consultant surgeons Chien Wong and Lorenzo Motta led the service, which provided elective treatments for conditions such as eye floaters, epiretinal membrane and macular hole.

‘For anyone unlucky enough to suffer retinal detachment, time is of the essence. Getting the right treatment as soon as possible can make the difference between saving and losing their sight,’ Wong said.

He added that OCL has state of the art surgical equipment to support its surgeons in providing the service.

Motta, who was a vitreoretinal surgeon at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Trust, has recently joined OCL in order to co-lead the service.
