Essilor and Luxottica merger plans move forward

A series of international anti-trust applications submitted by Essilor and Luxottica ahead of their proposed merger have moved forward, the companies have said.

Antitrust authorities in three of the five jurisdictions, where approval was a condition to the deal being closed, namely the US, Canada and Brazil, have each received applications. In the US and Canada, investigations have entered the phase of a secondary request, which Essilor said was expected for a merger of this size.

In China, the fourth jurisdiction where approval was needed, the proposed transaction was under review by the Ministry of Commerce, with notification acceptance expected shortly.

The deal remained on course to be completed by the end of the year.
