Three fifths of glasses/contact lens wearers surveyed have driven without prescription

Optical Express has revealed that three fifths of the glasses/contact lens wearers it surveyed have driven without their prescription.

The multiple has warned about the dangers of driving without the correct eyewear as part of Road Safety Week, which is running November 18-24.

The firm claimed one of the major causes for casualties on the roads is poor vision. Drivers are less effective at identifying hazards or road mistakes, with potentially dangerous results, when not able to see properly.

Clinical services director at Optical Express Stephen Hannan said: ‘Good eyesight is an essential requirement for safe driving. Passing the sight test when you first passed your driving test doesn’t necessarily mean your sight is still up to standard.’
