Sunglass maker plans factory closures

Costa Del Mar to halt its manufacturing operations in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Costa Del Mar has announced its plans to cut 295 jobs as it closes most of its manufacturing operations in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Costa was acquired by Essilor in 2014, before Essilor merged with Luxottica in 2017. In a letter explaining its decision, the Florida based manufacturer cited ‘changing business needs’ as the reason for its decisions.

An EssilorLuxottica spokesperson explained: ‘EssilorLuxottica’s decision to integrate Costa into the Luxottica profile will allow the brand to fully leverage on Luxottica’s strengths in everything from product innovation to manufacturing to supply chain to distribution networks.’

Certain marketing and business will remain in Daytona Beach while manufacturing will be moved to New York and California.
