FODO (the association for eye care providers) has published its initial response to the Welsh Government’s plans to transform eye care services.

The response ‘welcomed news that the Welsh Government planned to address chronic underfunding of the NHS sight test and invest more in clinical services provided in primary eye care settings’, and noted that ‘together these had the potential to prevent avoidable sight loss.’

FODO also raised some concerns about the proposals. These included negative impacts of cutting patient benefits to part fund planned reforms, risk to essential domiciliary eye care services, and uncertainty about what will be included within clinical manuals.
