GOC publishes New Standards for Optical Businesses

New Standards for Optical Businesses have been published by the GOC

New Standards for Optical Businesses that will come into effect on October 1 have been published by the GOC.

These standards have been revised according to feedback received during a recent consultation. Changes were made to ensure the standards will reflect the right balance of responsibilities between businesses and staff and will be flexible enough to be applied across the four UK nations.

Marcus Dye, head of standards and CET, said: ‘The new Standards will replace the current Code of Conduct for Businesses and set out our expectations of business registrants more clearly. They have been updated to maintain consistency with the Standards of Practice for optometrists and dispensing opticians and will ensure patient safety in a fast-changing landscape faced with new technology, an ageing population and expanding scopes of practice.’
