GOC supports LGBT+ History Month

The regulator put on activities and events for staff

Staff at the General Optical Council (GOC) have learned about the history of the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender (LGBT) community during LGBT+ History Month.

The GOC said it was committed to learning, developing and changing in this area and acknowledged that there was more work to do.

Activities, such as a rainbow bake challenge and a quiz, were held in February in order to create greater understanding of the support needs of its registrants.

Staff also underwent renewed equality, diversity and inclusion training and the GOC has also reviewed categories of data it collects to be more inclusive.

A series of articles written by staff members who shared their experiences of being LGBT+, including topics such as the HIV/Aids pandemic, have been published on the GOC’s Intranet.
