Mark Freeman Opticians in Romsey, Hampshire closed on July 11.

The practice provided private and NHS eye examinations and had over 30 years of experience in the eye care sector. The premises has always been used as an optician practice and the independent Mark Freeman business had been there for 12 years.

Mark Edgerley, Romsey town centre manager, believes the practice suffered from too many opticians in the area. He commented to the Daily Echo: ‘They are all good businesses that are welcome in the town, but if there are not enough customers to go around you end up with somebody having to give up.’
