Improved access pathway

Locsu has published a refreshed care pathway for people with learning disabilities

The Local Optical Committee Support Unit (Locsu) has published a refreshed care pathway for people with learning disabilities.

Developed in partnership with SeeAbility, Mencap and the Association of British Dispensing Opticians, the new care recommendations are aimed at improving access to optical care for the ‘hard to reach’ group.

New resources for pre-appointment preparation, tailored appointments, post-appointment feedback and communication are available for both patients and practitioners.

Health inequalities are common for those with learning disabilities and part of this is attributable to a lack of accessible health promotion information, explained a Locsu statement.

Documentation from the new pathway is available at the Locsu website.
