Following a joint presentation at the International Myopia Conference, the World Council of Optometry (WCO) and CooperVision have collaborated to raise awareness for treatments that slow myopia progression.

It outlined a global resolution to advance myopia management as ‘the standard of care’, which comprised three main components: mitigation through early education of patients, parents and children; measurement of patient’s eye health, such as refractive error and axial length; and management treatments to slow progression.

Dr Sandra Block, optometry doctor and president-elect at WCO, said: ‘With industry leader CooperVision, we are shifting the profession away from the concept of simply correcting refractive error to understanding the elements of our recommended Standard of Care for Myopia Management by Optometrists, 2021.’
