My first Keeler Pocket ophthalmoscope was bought for me in my third year at City University in 1979. It was a birthday present from my father, also an optometrist,
I loved it because it was small, easy to handle and it was also the cheapest option for my father at the time. It was a struggle as I was one of seven children and although we didn’t have to pay fees in those days, living expenses in London were still high. As the years went on and my accommodation started to fail, so did my ophthalmoscope, so I upgraded to a Keeler Practitioner.
