MP Practice visitA local MP has called on constituents to have regular eye tests after visiting an optical practice in Cleethorpes.

Martin Vickers visited Stephens Opticians last month, and was told the 1.8 million people in the UK living with sight loss was set to increase by 115% by 2050, largely due to the ageing population.

Optometrist and practice owner Nicholas Stephens said: ‘Many eye conditions such as glaucoma are treatable and in many cases sight loss can be prevented if detected early enough.’

Vickers added: ‘As in all aspects of healthcare it is good to know that by taking a more active role we can prevent many serious conditions developing in the first place or, at the very least, have them identified early on and receive the appropriate treatment.’
