Heidelberg's Spectralis is sent to the International Space Station

Heidelberg Engineering’s imaging platform Spectralis has been sent to the International Space Station (ISS) to continue Nasa’s investigation into the effects of microgravity on vision.

The instrument, which combines fundus imaging with OCT, has been in use by Nasa since 2013 and Heidelberg has announced the continuation of Spectralis with its next-generation OCT2 Module.

The new model is on its way to the ISS after being launched aboard the orbital sciences flight on May 21. It will be installed on the space station later this year.
