OO erased over record keeping

Multiple failures relating to patient care were noted by the GOC

Tenby-based optometrist John Stevenson has been erased from the General Optical Council (GOC) register after a committee found he was unfit for practice due to a multiple failures relating to patient care and record keeping.

Stevenson had been under conditional registration for over four years following failures with his record keeping.

In making the decision, committee chair Ian Crookall said: ‘Mr Stevenson’s issues with record keeping were symptomatic of an underlying problem that he did not recognise the importance of having his records independently audited and assessed. The committee therefore determined that erasure was the only appropriate and proportionate sanction.’

If no appeal is lodged, Stevenson will be erased from the GOC register after his current conditional order expires on March 29.
