York-based optometrist Ruth Perrott was presented with her MBE, which was awarded in the Queen’s 2021 New Year Honours, at Windsor Castle on December 7 by Prince William.

The award was given to Perrott for her services to people with sight impairment in Africa, where she has visited 16 times providing spectacles to rural communities.

Perrott’s first visit was to Cameroon in 1991 in support of Prince Charles’ Operation Raleigh and the project to deliver spectacles was supported by Rotary York Ainsty.

Rotary York Ainsty recognised Perrott’s work by making her an honorary member and presenting her with the Paul Harris Fellowship award.
