Profession backs educational reform

Responses to the General Optical Council’s high-level Education Strategic Review consultation have shown support for a new approach to education.

Findings from the concepts and principles consultation showed 97% of respondents agreed with the development of new education standards for optometrists and dispensing opticians. A total of 82% agreed with embedding clinical experience progressively from the start of education programmes.

The regulator has also commissioned a full independent analysis of the consultation feedback and said it would publish this separately.
