Teesside University’s optometry suite visited by minister

Chris Skidmore MP was given a tour of the university and had a sight test

Teesside University’s new optometry suite was visited by Chris Skidmore MP, the minister of state for universities, science, research and innovation.

The minister was given a tour of the university late last month and had a sight test in the purpose-built suite in the school of health and life sciences.

Speaking about his visit on social media, Skidmore said: ‘As well as getting my eyes tested, I got the opportunity to sit down with students to discuss their work and meet staff in the new optometry department, which is seeking to meet a huge geographical need.’

Teesside University was granted provisional approval by the General Optical Council in November 2019 to start its BSc (Hons) clinical optometry programme in January.
