Théa survey finds 34% of Brits cannot afford vision correction

A survey carried out by Théa found 39% of Brits have not been for an eye test in the last two years and 34% avoided it because they could not afford spectacles and contact lenses.

The supplier’s Me, Myself and Eye research surveyed over 2,000 adults via YouGov and has been published during National Eye Health Week (September 20-26).

Respondents said they would only visit an optical practice if there was an issue with their eyes (36%), while 9% said they didn’t like people touching their eyes and 8% said the equipment used made them anxious.

Sarah Farrant, optometrist and part of Théa’s expert in eyes team, said: ‘We rely on our eyes for everyday tasks and we tend to take them for granted. It’s time to think about lifestyle choices and how these can affect our eye health.
