People aren’t impressed by technology, they are impressed by usability. As optical practices tool themselves up for the 21st century this must be borne in mind.

This month Optician’s Market Monitor provides a snapshot of the technology practices employed and it makes for interesting reading. The progression of technology is not meritocratic; it travels the path of least resistance.

Some of the most impressive diagnostic technology has been around for a while, albeit it at a price, but the most rapidly-growing technology has to be tablet-based dispensing. Many of the packages found on these dispensing systems are impressive but the ubiquity and comfort that iPad-type devices enjoy has aided take up.
