Letter: Dispensing difference

Letters
We have to work independently of dispensing

The talk of the title ‘Dr’ for British optometrists has been proposed for some time by academics like Professor Dr Rishi Agarwal, and supported by others.

However, we should also separate ‘dispensing’ from clinical optometry. Then we would be properly recognised clinically for our eye health care and advice and treatment for various ocular conditions otherwise targets of conversion for dispensing by optometrists put us in the category of ‘sellers’ and not truly professionals as the public would like to see us.

I appeal to the readers to seriously consider and accept this proposal for our chosen profession before and also act on the ‘Doctor’ title for British optometrists. We have to work independently of dispensing. It is successfully done in USA and Canada.
