E yecare UK met on June 6 to agree a strategy for the optical sector. The outputs (as outlined in its press release) followed general agreement that the optical sector should work together and with wider partners, to: educate the public about eye health and eye care, shape and change the future of community-based eye care provision, ensure appropriate remuneration for NHS care, support the skilled workforce and ensure appropriate and proportionate regulation. Not much wrong with that.

It is interesting to note, however, that this meeting superseded, by a couple of months, a meeting convened by the RNIB (under the badge of convenience of 'Vision 2020 UK'), held on April 4, at which a 'UK Vision Strategy' was in principle agreed. The outputs of this April meeting were four broad areas: awareness, education and the prevention of blindness correction, treatment and the eye care journey support for independent living and empowerment and the inclusive society.
