View from ABDO: Shape the future of optics

2018 is an election year for the ABDO board, with three places open for election to become a director. One seat is being vacated by Keith Cavaye, our longest serving board member. At the ABDO Optrafair dinner this month I was delighted to present Keith with the Hamblin Memorial prize.

This annual award is presented to a member for exceptional service to the advancement of optics and consequently their professional organisation. It was a fitting tribute to Keith who has been so dedicated over four decades.

Have you considered becoming a member of your professional body’s board of directors? There is a real need for people to step up, not least because of the dramatic changes in demographics within the professions over the past few years. We have more female members, and the average age of membership is falling.
