The British optometrist has a pretty pessimistic outlook on their world. This is despite the vastly increased scope of practice now available and regular positive news from the Clinical Council for Eye Health Commissioning, the Colleges of Optometrists and Ophthalmologists sharing a love-in and the jewel in the crown; Scotland.

Spare a thought for Ireland. June 2017 saw the publication of a truly reactionary document; the Primary Care Eye Services Review Group Report. We may not get what we want out of the GOS thanks to a sclerotic DH but imagine the furore if a so-called multi-disciplinary group produced a wide-ranging and detailed document on primary eye care without a single optometrist on the committee.
