Graeme spent over 10 years a regular locum for many practices. When his second daughter was born, he decided he wanted a role with a better work/life balance and prospects for career development. This led him to our Northampton, Vision Express store.
After a few successful months in the permanent optometrist position, Graeme supported a pre-registration optometrist into the team, who he guided and supported through his course. 'It was a proud day when I hear he had qualified after only one year of training, especially given the difficulties that Covid-19 presented!'.
A couple of years on, an optometrist store manager vacancy cropped up at the Knowle store, which he saw as his opportunity to run his own store, as well as working closer to home. After his 9-week training programme with Vision Express, he’s been in the role over a year!

Izzy has worked at Vision Express for almost 20 years. Starting her career with us as a pre-reg optometrist, she later got involved in supervising and has since become a professional development tutor.

You’ll gain experience and bespoke training in all aspects of the customer journey, including eye examinations, contact lens fitting, and dispensing glasses and contact lenses. We’ll prepare you for some of your most challenging times and be with you at every step of the way.

The people that lead our teams are ambitious and inspiring. They know how to rally their team together, so that everyone is contributing to our mission, to 'See more and be more'. Dan joined us in 2004 in a part-time role, whilst he was studying his A-Levels with a plan to become a sport psychologist. Fast forward to 2023, Dan is now the director of professional services and the clinical lead with EssilorLuxottica!
Throughout his time with Vision Express, Dan has always put in 110% and always looking out on how he can learn new skills. He made sure to grab opportunities with both hands, even if he didn’t feel quite ready for them.
At Vision Express, you’ll have the support from your team, to know that you’ll be supported to develop the skills you need to take that leap. One piece of advice Dan wishes he gave his younger self, was to 'Be more patient, enjoy the current role that you’re in, and be less hard on yourself'.
