Developing our people is a key priority.
For years, we have supported career progression through our trainee dispensing optician programme, leading to registration as dispensing opticians. It's great to see former trainees now mentoring current ones, sharing their experiences and providing guidance. We are considering the new dispensing degree apprenticeship route for our 2025 intake.
Registered dispensing opticians can advance into practice management through our in-house academy training programme. We also support those studying optometry through integrated degree programmes.
For optometrist GOC registrants, we offer a well-established programme for independent prescribing qualifications. There is a growing community of IP optometrists, supported by an internal forum and peer review events, including at our Oxygen Conferences.
We have recently begun helping optometrists pursue professional certificates in glaucoma. Our clinical services team supports all GOC registrants throughout their careers at Leightons, from onboarding and tailored induction to ongoing mentorship.
