A week of news – three not out for VA

Joe Ayling

A latest instalment of burgeoning optical event Vision Arena was held at Lord’s Cricket Ground this week.

The small-scale conference and exhibition debuted last year and will again take place in London and Manchester.

Highlights included a presbyopia quiz organised by contact lens firm Saufon, which replaced Johnson & Johnson as one of the event’s backers, and a talk about ‘being brilliant’ by optometrist Andy Clark.

Also involved were the likes of Shamir, Transitions, Macushield and Optos. With representatives from lens, frame, software and contact lens sectors, the idea is to promote debate without the distraction of competing interests.

An added bonus for delegates was taking a guided tour of the ground, including a seat in the players’ changing room and glimpse of the Ashes.

The original terracotta urn was presented to England captain Ivo Bligh by his eventual wife in 1882 and has been kept in the same place since. The same cannot be said of Vision Arena though, which will next move to Old Trafford on October 25.
