A week of news - Osiris launch at the Gherkin

Joe Ayling

Members of the Specsavers fraternity would be forgiven for feeling a little jaded this morning after throwing the mother of all parties at the Gherkin in London.

Painted models, a nail bar and the appearance of former Blue Peter presenter Tim Vincent 180 meters above ground level marked a new era for the company's Osiris frame brand.

Without giving too much away ahead of next week's issue, the company has completely overhauled the old collection in favour of an ice cool Nordic feel.

Staging a product launch at a venue such as the Gherkin does have its flaws though, with many guests most in awe of the surrounding view.

After a few glasses of fizz and chinwag with the designers Optician was on its merry way, only to be joined on the 34-floor elevator trip to the ground floor by two of the aforementioned half-dressed painted ladies.

Now lift journeys can be awkward at the best of times, but it soon became clear an abseil down the rest of the building might have been a better option for all concerned.

‘I bet it gets hot wearing all that paint,’ the polite chit-chat begins.

‘Nope,’ it ends.

Luckily for Optician readers, an interview at the summit with Osiris’ brand manager is a far more fruitful and less embarrassing exercise, so look out for more in next week’s news.
