The first question to address is how long the lens will take to settle. It has become traditional in practice to allow 20 minutes. This is remarkably similar to the span allocated to a standard appointment, or in quieter periods to drink a cup of your favourite beverage. Researchers have pointed out that most soft lenses do most of their settling in the first two minutes, and it is widely accepted that the fit after five minutes probably isn't going to change much for several hours. Over this initial period there is some dispute about exactly what is happening.
