Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the most common cause of vision loss in those over the age of 55. It is a degenerative condition which affects the cells in the macula responsible for central vision. While wet AMD can be treated successfully with injections, dry AMD is slowly progressive and, once the condition has advπanced, patients can be left with severe loss of central vision.1,2 In this article I present a case study to illustrate the efficacy of the Scharioth Macula Lens (SML) in a patient with dry AMD.
Case study
An 85-year-old male patient presented with complete loss of vision in his right eye from advanced macular degeneration (PL only). In his left eye, he was affected with dry AMD with reduced central vision.
