'I am a registered DO with ABDO as well as an optometrist. For the new CET scheme obviously I have to do CET points that cover all eight competencies to stay registered as an optometrist, but do I also have to cover the other competencies to keep my registration with ABDO as there are a few competencies that do not cross over?'

Bill Harvey replies: You can only be registered as one professional category with the GOC, either optometrist or dispensing optician. So your CET profile needs to reflect the competencies for that particular profession (nine for the DO, eight for the optometrist). If you register as an optometrist, you can still maintain an associate membership of ABDO allowing you to use the letters after your name.
