Timely conversations with patients about presbyopia, before it becomes an issue, can be beneficial for patients. I start this conversation with my patients in their late 30s or early 40s, talking about how lifestyle and occupation may cause presbyopia to manifest earlier or later. I ensure it is presented as a natural process, albeit one that can have varying speed of onset. I take this approach because I have noticed that those either in denial or coping until their late 40s are often those who experience a more rapid change in symptoms. These conversations have also got easier since I became presbyopic myself.
