CooperVision Biofinity: ‘I’ve been given my sight back’

Lenses
Heidi battled chronic uveitis in her right eye for more than 20 years before optometrist Vicki Macken came up with a solution that led to her winning this year’s CooperVision Life-Enhancing Contact Lens competition

Optometrist Vicki Macken, of Hassocks Eyecare Centre in West Sussex, won this year’s CooperVision Life-Enhancing Contact Lens competition for her management of 44-year-old patient Heidi, who had for years suffered the effects of recurrent anterior uveitis. Here we publish the clinical details of the case.

History

Heidi first presented in June 2014 with a letter from the consultant which detailed the following history:

? Chronic bilateral anterior uveitis

? Bilateral cataract surgery (right in 2005, left in 2007) as a result of steroid intervention

? Right vitrectomy and removal of intraocular lens in March 2014.

Heidi had been advised to attend for a contact lens fitting for the now aphakic eye. She was continuing to use Maxidex drops daily in both eyes.
