Eye examinations were down 4 per cent from last month, but improved by just 1 per cent compared to last June. NHS tests account for 70 per cent of all eye examinations, consistent since February. It appears the trend has evened out at the new level. In Scotland, for the year ending March 31, the number of NHS tests has increased by 64 per cent on the previous 12-month period. In the Index sample as a whole, NHS tests increased by 16 per cent for the same period, while private eye examinations fell by 8 per cent. In Scotland, voucher claims for lenses have actually declined from 2006 to 2007, by 3.2 per cent. For the Index sample, the volume of dispensing over the year is negative though negligible at less than 1 per cent.
