A basic assessment of vision has long been included as part of the requirements to drive safely, with the licence plate test dating back to the 1930s. Unfortunately, in the UK, this assessment has not been updated, for the majority of drivers, in line with scientific advances or to reflect today's understanding and knowledge of vision.
