Echoes of the Past: Spectacles on postage stamps

This week’s Echoes of the Past looks back 40 years to the December 13 issue of Optician from 1974. Around the time the issue went to press, new speed limits were introduced on Britain's roads in an attempt to save fuel at a time of Arab fuel embargoes following the Yom Kippur War.

An interesting article by M Martin detailed the history of the depiction of glasses on postage stamps. Martin said that images of spectacles appearing on stamps was rare, with only two out of 75,000 stamps in 20 years prior to the article, featuring glasses – one in Pakistan and the other Germany.
