Today, the concept of an optical PR organisation seems a little strange. With so many associations and organisations in the optometric sector, each handling their own communications and awareness initiatives, the direction of optical PR has become quite fragmented.
The same couldn’t be leveled at the industry of the mid-1970s, as a news focus article in the September 19 edition of Optician shows. Public relations bodies from around Europe met seven years before the article was published to create the European Committee of Association for the Protection and Care of Eyesight (CEAV) to share information on how the importance of eye health was promoted around Europe. It included members from Britain, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Sweden and Switzerland.
