Andrew Symons, contact lens consultant at CIBA Vision, began proceedings with a review of toric lens fitting. Illustrating his lecture with data on the performance of the new Air Optix Toric, Symons outlined the challenges to adequate astigmatic soft lens correction. Among these, he listed lens stability, oxygen provision and practitioner fitting technique. Modern lens designs and materials, he said, meant that astigmatic correction was now within every practitioner's capabilities.
