Celebrations for the 40th anniversary of Silmo began recently in Paris, with top French frame companies giving a preview of what they have in store for October. Rory Brogan reports

Silmo chairman Guy Charlot explained that organisers aimed to reflect the creativity of brands and companies from the optical sector and the mini-frame show that followed turned out to be totally in keeping with Silmo's strapline of 'sight and fashion'.

For Gold & Wood, the emphasis is on buffalo horn, with ladies' frames C12 and C13 and the stylish updated avaitor men's sunglass H09. Guillaume Boisson, Gold & Wood account manager, describes the laser-engraved and Swarovski-set horn sides of the frames as 'crazy'. The two-tone acetate fronts are sober in contrast.
