In focus: Optical Confederation has no confidence in Capita

Failures to improve on poor performance has left the industry with no choice but to call out Capita. Simon Jones reports

After nearly two years of ‘utter frustration, dissatisfaction and anger,’ the Optical Confederation has called on NHS England to consider stripping Capita of its contract to deliver payments for ophthalmic services on behalf of Primary Care Support England (PCSE).

In a letter to NHS England chief executive Simon Stevens, which echoed a similar position held by the British Medical Association (BMA), the Confederation said the optical sector had ‘no confidence’ in Capita, which had failed to manage the ophthalmic payments service, execute the processing and payment of CET schemes within expected timescales for the second year running and manage and process Performers List and GOS contract applications.
