Like so many industries, optics is still assessing the full impact of the Brexit vote. Simon Jones looks at the initial fallout and implications for the future

Last week the people of Britain voted to leave the European Union, a decision which sent shockwaves around the world. Markets plummeted, currency crashed and members of the government were nowhere to be seen for days.

Given that the government is still, even after nearly a week, in the early days of trying to work out how the country moves forward, assessing the full impact of the Brexit vote will be difficult.

Optics is very much in the same boat. There will be ramifications for the sector, but the full extent is not clear yet and does not look likely to be so in the near future. Prices of European-sourced frames, equipment and ancillaries could rise and there could be changes to the registration process for European practitioners.
